Virtualbox Retina Display

I'm happily using VirtualBox on a MacBook Pro with Retina display. However, ever since the release of VirtualBox 4.2 moving windows in a guest OS is very slow, i.e. The movement of the window is considerably lagging behind the pointer movement up to a degree where it gets unusable. This happens on both, a Gentoo Linux VM with a XFCE4 desktop and on a Windows Vista VM. I am running the new Mac Air 13' with OS X 10.8.2. I then downloaded the latest VirtualBox 4.2.6. Then, I installed Ubuntu 10.04 into the VM. First off, after I installed the VirtualBox Guest Additions and restarted the VM, the Ubuntu desktop froze after the GDM login and I had to delete the VBoxGuestAdditions folders out of /opt and /usr/lib to get back to normal again.

In the VirtualBox Manager, navigate to the desired machines settings Display HiDPI Support. Check Use Unscaled HiDPI Output. In the virtual machine, select your desired resolution.

The default screen resolution for Mac OS X VirtualBox Guest is 1024×768.
Below shows how to change the screen resolution of Mac OS VirtualBox guest running on Windows 10.

Steps
1. Open “Command Prompt”. (press Win + x and select “Command Prompt”)

2. Navigate to VirtualBox folder in which “VBoxManage.exe” resides.
e.g.)

3. Set resolution by typing the command below.

The third parameter (i.e. “High Sierra”) should be your VM name.

4. Start the VM
